ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

Project WILD - suitable for any educator, any grade level, with an unbiased approach to basic wildlife management practices. It’s an interdisciplinary conservation and environmental education program that focuses on wildlife and habitat. The goal of Project WILD is to develop awareness, knowledge, skills, and commitment resulting in informed decisions, responsible behavior, and constructive actions concerning wildlife and the environment. Next workshops listed here, or contact Kiki Corry to set up a workshop at your own location. Most workshops are $35 for the curriculum guides. Practice the activities as part of the training, so that you’re comfortable leading students. Click here for a sample activity.

Project Learning Tree - Can't make it to an in-person professional development workshop? Sign up for an online workshop that can be completed in your own time, wherever you are. Currently offered: PreK-8 online workshop, an Early Childhood online workshop, and a GreenSchools online course.

Texas Aquatic Science is a comprehensive aquatic science curriculum, from molecules to ecosystems, and headwaters to ocean, for middle school and high school students; it includes an online student textbook, a teacher guide, specially produced videos, and supplementary materials. Project WET - water education & curriculum for teachers. This water education program promotes awareness of water and empowers community action to solve complex water issues. Contact Alondra Hernandez for a workshop.

Galveston Bay Foundation - To schedule a half-day or full-day workshop for the teachers in your school or district, email Cindy Wilems for more information. Workshops can be tailored to curriculum needs and can combine in-classroom activities as well as in-field opportunities.

The Leopold Education Project is an interdisciplinary environmental education curriculum targeted mainly to middle school and high school students. It can also be adapted for use with families, adults, and elementary age children. Contact Kristi Pierce.

Texas Envirothon is a neat way to learn about our natural heritage alongside your students.

Texas A&M Galveston Sea Camp offers adventures exploring the wonders of the marine and estuarine environments with access to research vessels, oceanographic equipment, laboratory facilities, and a professional staff enabling you to learn about the ocean through hands-on experiences.

Visit Costa Rica with a local tour company, Little Four Monkeys. See rainforsts, cloud forests, volcanoes, and organic farms. Compare our Gulf Coastal ecosystems with the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean systems. Take your own students, too. Contact Alicia Mein-Johnson for information.
